Okan Duru is author of “Shipping Business Unwrapped: Illusion, Bias and Fallacy in the Shipping Business” as well as “Maritime Business and Economics: Asian Perspectives”. He authored many book chapters, academic papers and Op-Ed articles in various magazines. He is currently Assistant Professor of Maritime Finance and Logistics at Nanyang Technological University with a research focus on computational intelligence, predictive analytics, fraud and misrepresentation in predictive products, LNG marine bunker development and fuel choice, ship valuation, shipping asset management, computational economics of shipping business and shipping market analysis. Dr. Duru is elected as the council member of the International Association of Maritime Economists, and he also served as Vice-Chair of IEEE Technical Committee on Computational Intelligence for Finance and Economics. Dr. Duru reviewed projects for The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek) and The Council of Canadian Academies (Conseil des académies canadiennes). His studies and comments have been appeared at The New York Times, The Wharton School Business Radio, Lloyd’s Shipping Economist, among others. He is recently working on another book titled “Predictive Analytics: Philosophy, Fallacy and Cutting-Edge” with Matthew Butler, senior machine learning scientist at Amazon Corp.
